What is a TikTok downloader?

A TikTok downloader is a web tool that takes a TikTok share link and returns the underlying media file. TikTok serves video from a public CDN in MP4 format at up to 1080p, so no software installation is required. Watermark-free copies come from the pre-render source file rather than from cropping the finished video.

  • TikTok videos are delivered as MP4 (H.264) at resolutions up to 1080p.
  • The TikTok watermark is composited into the video frames and moves position, so it cannot be cropped out cleanly.
  • Photo (slideshow) posts contain multiple JPG images plus a separate audio track.
  • Only public videos can be downloaded; private and "friends only" posts are not accessible.
  • Share links from vm.tiktok.com and vt.tiktok.com redirect to the full video URL.

TikTok tools

TikTok gives you no built-in way to save a video without its moving watermark, and photo slideshow posts cannot be saved at all from inside the app. These tools take any TikTok share link — including the short vm.tiktok.com and vt.tiktok.com forms — and return the original media file: video in MP4, images as JPG, and the sound as a separate track.

About TikTok media

TikTok stores every upload in several renditions. The version you watch in the app has the animated username watermark burned into the frames, but the platform also keeps a pre-watermark rendition on the same CDN. That is the file a no-watermark download returns — it is not the app version with the watermark blurred or cropped away, which is why the result has no black bars and no missing edges.

Resolution depends entirely on the person who uploaded. TikTok accepts up to 1080p, but it only preserves that quality if the creator recorded and uploaded at that resolution with "high quality upload" enabled in their settings. A video shot on an older phone, or uploaded over a weak connection, may only exist at 720p or lower — no tool can recover detail the platform never stored.

Photo posts (sometimes called slideshows or carousels) are a different content type entirely. They contain between two and thirty-five still images plus a separate audio track, and TikTok provides no save option for them at all. Downloading one returns the individual JPGs at full resolution, with the sound available separately.

Region locks are the most common reason a download fails. Some videos are restricted to specific countries, and a few creators disable downloads on their account. Videos posted to private accounts, or shared only with mutual followers, are never accessible — those require an authenticated session, which no legitimate tool should ask you for.

TikTok downloader FAQ

Do I need the TikTok app installed to use this?

No. You only need the share link, which you can copy from the app or from tiktok.com in any browser. The download happens entirely on the web.

Why do some TikTok videos only download at 720p?

Because that is the highest resolution TikTok has stored. Quality is set at upload time by the creator's device and their "high quality upload" setting. If the 1080p rendition does not exist on TikTok's servers, no tool can produce it.

Can I download a TikTok from a private account?

No, and you should be wary of any site that claims otherwise. Private posts require a logged-in session with permission from the account owner. We only handle publicly viewable content.

Does the creator get notified when I download their video?

No. TikTok does not notify creators about downloads made through external tools, and we do not send any signal back to the platform.

Is there a limit on how many videos I can download?

There is no daily cap. A short rate limit applies if you submit many links in quick succession, which exists to keep the service responsive for everyone.

Do you store the videos I download?

No. Files stream directly from TikTok's servers to your device. Nothing is saved on our side, and we keep no record of which links you submitted.

Can I use downloaded TikTok videos in my own content?

Only with the creator's permission, or where the licence allows it. Downloading for personal offline viewing is generally accepted; reposting someone else's video as your own is a copyright issue regardless of how you obtained the file.

Why did my link fail with "content unavailable"?

The post was deleted, set to private, or is region-locked. Open the link in a browser where you are logged out — if you cannot see it there either, it is not publicly available.

Other platforms

We do not host any content. All files are fetched directly from the source platform and streamed to your device — nothing is stored on our servers. Download only content you own or have permission to use. If you believe content has been made available in breach of your rights, see our copyright policy.
