What is a X (Twitter) downloader?

An X (Twitter) downloader retrieves media from a public post URL. X serves video as MP4 through a public CDN at up to 1080p, and images at several sizes with an original size available. Items posted as GIFs are stored as silent MP4 files rather than as true GIF images.

  • X video is delivered as MP4 (H.264) at up to 1080p.
  • Items labelled GIF on X are actually silent MP4 files, not GIF images.
  • Images are served at small, medium and large sizes plus an original.
  • Both x.com and twitter.com links point at the same posts.
  • Only public posts are accessible; protected accounts require authorisation.

X (Twitter) tools

X gives you no way to save the video or images in a post. These tools take any public x.com or twitter.com link and return the media directly — video as MP4, images at their original size, and GIF posts either as the MP4 X actually stores or converted to a real GIF. Short t.co links are expanded automatically.

About X (Twitter) media

X stores video in the same adaptive way most platforms now do: several MP4 renditions at different resolutions, served according to your connection. The highest is typically 1080p, though the ceiling depends on what the poster uploaded and whether they were using a Premium account, which allows longer and higher-quality uploads than a standard one.

The GIF situation catches people out constantly. When you attach a GIF to a post, X converts it to a silent MP4 and plays it on loop with the GIF label overlaid. Nothing about the stored file is a GIF any more. That is why saving one and expecting an animated image gives you a video file instead — and why a downloader has to offer an actual conversion step if you want a genuine GIF back.

Images follow a similar pattern to Pinterest. X appends a name parameter to image URLs — small, medium, large, or orig — and the timeline loads a reduced version. The orig variant is the file as uploaded, which matters if the poster shared a high-resolution photograph and you want more than a timeline-sized copy.

The rename from Twitter to X did not break old links. Both twitter.com and x.com resolve to the same posts, and t.co short links from the share sheet expand to either. All three forms work here. Protected accounts, however, are genuinely inaccessible — those posts are visible only to approved followers and require an authenticated session.

X (Twitter) downloader FAQ

Do twitter.com links still work, or do I need x.com?

Both work. The rename did not break existing links, and t.co short links expand to either domain. Paste whichever you have.

Why does a GIF from X download as a video?

Because X converts every GIF to a silent MP4 on upload and only displays a GIF label over it. The stored file is not a GIF, so saving it gives you an MP4. Use the GIF conversion option if you need a real animated image.

Can I download from a protected account?

No. Protected posts are visible only to approved followers and need an authenticated session, which we never ask for.

What is the highest video quality available?

Usually 1080p, though it depends on what the poster uploaded. Premium accounts can upload longer and higher-quality video than standard ones, so the ceiling varies by post.

How do I get the full-size version of an image?

X serves images at small, medium, large and original sizes. The timeline loads a reduced one; we fetch the original, which is the file as uploaded.

Can I download every image from a thread?

Individual posts are supported. Whole-thread bulk downloading is not, so paste the specific post whose media you want.

Does the poster know I downloaded their media?

No. X does not notify anyone about downloads made through external tools, and we send no signal back to the platform.

Do you store the files?

No. Media streams from X directly to your device, and we keep no record of the links you submit.
